Customer Reviews

December 9, 2008

We’ve been fortunate to receive praise and support from many of our customers. We appreciate the time they spent reviewing the edited movies they purchased and telling us about their experiences. The following are a few examples of what our customers have said in their own words:

[From Jerry G.] I also wanted to let you guys know that I will fully support you guys and am so happy I came across your site, I love the fact that I can watch some good action movies with my son and not have to worry about what he will hear and see while sitting next to me. I don’t like having an rated-R movie in my home because I do not want my children to come across the offensive content they may find, so Clean Flicks at the time was the best thing I could have ever stumbled upon being a big movie buff. I actually have (3) R movies, a Jack Ryan one, Conan and Bruce Lee that I keep save from my kids reach.
Well I can carry on but don’t want to take up anymore of your time – thanks again for your professional and well desired service. God bless.

[From Natalie, Referring to the movie "Crash"] I saw the unedited version of this movie during high school and I loved it, but I was uncomfortable with some of the language and one inappropriate scene. I recently bought the edited version from Good Movies and I’m so happy with my purchase! The edited version is exactly same, it just cleans up the language and cuts out the unnecessary nudity/sex scene. The storyline and plot still flow and the quality is great. Thanks, and keep up the great work!

[From Cody & Jenni R., Referring to the movie “Transformers”] We bought the PG-13 copy edited and were only expecting that “questionable” part being edited out.  Not only did they do that INCREDIBLY well, they took out all the other inappropriate scenes and language! Nothing edited out was missed – at all.   And the editing was first-class and seemed like an original edit – no choppiness! Can’t wait to see and comment on other movies!

[From Jolene G.] I recently showed Troy’s PG edited version to my high school class prior to assigning the book The Odyssey. It was an EXCELLENT version! I want to thank you. My students benefited trememndously to see this epic film before beginning a sometimes difficult text. I referenced the movie often during our readings, and my students completely understood. This has not always been the case in previous years.
I shared your company with a number of my peers. They are quite happy to know that truly helpful movies can now be used in the classroom.

[From Jana P., Referring to the movie “Titanic”] The editing of this movie was absolutely perfect. I cringe at foul language, but I love this movie. I was actually able to sit and watch the edited backup version for the first time, without having to think about the language. I’m also letting others know about your company. Thanks…

[From Ted M.] Recently I purchased the Transformers movie edited in the PG-13 format. Watching the original with my 9 year old son and 14 year old daughter always brought apprehension and questions when I would have to fastforward through certain scenes of the movie.
I loved your edit!! It was smooth, nothing was lost from the story (most of the time, the junk that has to be removed doesn’t affect the story) and the transitions were very professional. I was a member of the “Clean Films” family for some time, but they were shut down I was looking for a good alternative and I have found it in Good Movies.
Thanks for making family movie night an enjoyable clean experience!! I recommend you to all my friends and church family.

[From Brian, Referring to the movie "Beowulf"] Thankyou so much for getting this movie! I’m thrilled to get it this coming week, and look forward to watching it! thanks for having such a great company that provides us regular guys a place to get good movies!

[From Bryce L.] You guys are by far the best company I have found! Great edits and prices and by far the best Customer Service I have had in dealing with ANY other Editing company. I have been purcasing edited films for 4 years now and have dealt with CleanFilms, Cleanflicks, Flicksclub, Family Edited DVDs, Family Focus Films, and Movieclean and I say I am most pleased with your services! Thank you! Please keep the great edits coming!!!

[From Rebekah S.] I just received my first movie that I bought from you (300) and I loved it! I have seen it unedited and I think you all did a wonderful job of editing! Thank you so much for being here! I have already started to spread the word of your website! Thanks again. You have a customer for life!

[From Austin] i recently purchased braveheart from your store and i just wanted to let you guys know that i’m impressed with the quality of the video and editing.
thanks for providing great edited copies of these epic movies.

[From Chris B.] I recently purchase 3 movies from you as a first time customer. I just want you to know that I could not be happier with the purchase and the help that you provide with the movies. I will be back to order more movies and I’m letting everyone know about your service.

Edited movies: Commentary about the business

August 13, 2008

In the summer of 2006, many companies that sold and rented edited copies of movies were found to be in violation of copyright law. By the end of 2007, all those companies had liquidated their entire inventory and closed. At the beginning of 2008, Good Movies was the only company offering edited movies.

At Good Movies, we sell movies. We provide each customer the opportunity to get a free edited copy of each movie purchased. We do not rent movies, nor do we ever sell just the edited copy. This and other operating differences make it so we can continue to provide our customers the opportunity to get edited movies.

We continued to be the only option for edited movies until April, when Family Edited DVDs started a business similar to ours. Even though most of their website content was taken directly from our website without permission, they still understood that in order to provide edited movies you have to sell the original DVD.

Now, Family Edited DVDs is closing and they are liquidating their inventory. We find this very strange since they did not stock original DVDs. They only purchased original DVDs after they were bought by the customer. This means they have no legitimate inventory to “liquidate.” Nevertheless, they have chosen to liquidate their inventory illegally by only selling edited copies of movies without the original DVD. Selling copies of edited movies without the original DVD is piracy.

Family Edited DVDs is encouraging their customers to purchase pirated movies. As of today, one of the questions on their F.A.Q. (frequently asked questions) page addresses whether you can buy edited copies without owning the original. They state that you can buy just the edited copies of movies because they are liquidating their inventory. This is not true! It is illegal to even own an edited copy without owning the original movie. We caution any one interested in edited movies to avoid buying them without the original DVD.

We are very disappointed in Family Edited DVDs and other companies that only sell copies of edited movies. This irresponsible behavior demonstrates a willful violation of copyright law. We hope they end this practice soon without doing further damage to their reputation or to the edited movie business in general.

What does audio editing mean to us?

August 5, 2008

Sound is major contributor to an entertaining movie experience. Sound is the audio aspect of the performance. Audio can be generally described as pertaining to everything audibly transmitted and perceived. In movies, there are many sounds to be heard. When we edit audio, we recognize that many sources of sound play an important part in the audience’s ability to be part of the movie. Three sources of sound that affect an audience’s sense of immersion are dialogue, sound effects, and music.

Dialogue is what is spoken between the characters. Movies usually involve multiple characters that interact with one another. It is the conversation between these characters that we as viewers overhear so we can better understand each character and their development. Dialogue is also used as a story-telling tool to drive the plot to the next major event. When we edit dialogue, we remove offensive language without awkward pauses or lip-reading. We preserve the emotion and purpose of the conversation.

The characters in a movie are not the only source of sound. Sounds are made by objects as well. There are many objects that can produce sound in a movie including engines, guns, doors, keyboards, and explosions. The sounds made by these and other objects are typically called sound effects. Our lives are filled with sound effects. Without these sounds, the audience would not be able to gain a true sense of immersion. When we edit any offensive content, we take special care to leave in the sense of immersion that comes from hearing sound effects.

Music helps an audience get a sense of immersion. It can produce an emotional reaction from the audience. This reaction allows movie viewers to get a sense of what it would feel like if they were in the movie. When we edit for offensive content, we preserve the music and the effect it has on the audience.

Audio editing means removing offensive content while maintaining the look and feel of the movie. It doesn’t mean only editing what you hear, but editing what you experience. This approach to audio editing produces the best possible result…a great movie experience!

What does video editing mean to us?

July 30, 2008

There are many factors that contribute to an entertaining movie experience. One of the most prominent factors is the video aspect of the performance. Video can be generally described as pertaining to everything visually transmitted and perceived. This includes objects, color, motion, expressions, and abstract or concrete ideas. With all this information trying to get our attention, the video aspect of a performance greatly influences our movie experience.

When movie patrons go to the movies, they’re expecting the best movie experience possible. They want to see vibrant settings that draw them into the time period. They want to see the trials of the hero and the rise and fall of the villain. They want to see every little detail available to them so that they can feel as if they are a part of the movie. The way the audience gains this sense of immersion typically depends on what we call the “look and feel” of the movie.

We recognize how important it is for an audience to reach that sense of immersion. They should feel involved in the story whether they watch it in the theatre or on DVD. When a customer buys a DVD from us and decides to watch the edited backup, they should expect the same movie experience. That’s why we take pride in removing offensive content while maintaining the look and feel of the movie. Our advanced editing techniques allow us to edit each offensive moment frame by frame while keeping the original picture quality. This approach to video editing produces the best possible result…a great movie experience!

What are edited movies?

July 10, 2008

That’s a great question! Let’s explain.

Editing is the process of making something presentable. When someone edits, it means they correct, fix, adapt, arrange, cut, and revise material before it’s ready to be presented. Many forms of media go through the editing process including newspapers, magazines, books, music, and movies.

When a new movie comes out, it has already gone through an editing process. The term “edited movies” refers to movies that are re-edited. In other words, they go through the editing process a second time.

The most common form of an “edited movie” is a movie that has been re-edited specifically for content. This means the movie goes through the editing process a second time in order to remove offensive content. The offensive content typically removed includes gore, nudity, profanity, etc. Edited movies can act like a type of parental control and provide people the opportunity to watch movies without offensive content.

3 Reasons to Buy Movies with a Backup Copy

June 17, 2008

Good Movies sells original DVDs and provides a free backup copy with each purchase. Here are three reasons why this is the best way to buy movies:

Reason 1 – Damage

Information is stored on DVDs by writing to the disc. The disc surface is delicate and is vulnerable to harm that could interfere with its performance. There are various ways your movie could be rendered unplayable. Scratches to the surface of the disc are the most common. These are deep impressions that interfere with the DVD player’s ability to read the information on the disc. Grease and oil left by smudging or any foreign material on the disc surface also hurts performance. If DVD players can not read DVDs, then movies can not be watched.

A backup copy allows you to watch the movie and protect the original from any possible harm.

Reason 2 – Investment

If you like a movie enough, you’ll probably buy it and add it to your home collection. It is a great advantage to have your favorite movies available when you want to watch them. If one of your movies is damaged or broken, you lose the movie. This means that if you want the movie in your collection you have to buy it again.

If your backup copy is damaged or broken, you do not have to buy another since the original was protected. When you think of all the things that effect your movies, replacing them can be expensive. The backup copy saves you from buying another movie.

Reason 3 – Edited for content

Movies are given specific ratings based on their content. This restricts the amount of viewers that can watch movies. For example, movies rated “R” are restricted to viewers 17 years of age or older. This means movies with messages or morals may go unseen due to their content. In some cases, the content itself is the factor that discourages people from watching movies.

A backup copy that is edited for content gives people a choice. They can choose to watch the original or the edited movie depending on the audience. This choice allows viewers to buy and watch movies that were previously avoided due to content.

Our Introduction

June 12, 2008

Good Movies is an online DVD retailer. What makes Good Movies stand out is our amazing service. When you buy a movie, you also receive a free backup-copy of the movie. This service allows you to protect the original DVD and only expose the backup to any possible harm. Whether the backup is scratched, crushed, broken, or otherwise rendered unplayable, your original purchase is safe.

Another great benefit of the service is that the backup copies can be edited for content. This means you have the option of watching Hollywood movies without being exposed to offensive material. We even offer two types of editing for each backup. You can choose either an edit similar to “PG-13” or an edit similar to “PG.”

We believe a movie does not become great by its content alone but also by the way it is presented. That’s why our experienced video and audio editing team takes pride in removing offensive material while maintaining the look and feel of the movie. This makes Good Movies the best way to buy your favorite movies and even edited movies!
